temp problem

I have a remanufactured 5.0 liter(Mercury product) that has less than 50 hours since the replacement. Also water pump was replaced last year. temp is fine at idle but quickly overheats under load. Strainer pickup is unobstructed? Any ideals. Risers are 3 years old.

Ayuh,... That was last year, 'n the Impeller is always the 1st place to look in an overheat situation...

See if the WP hsg. is melted a little...proof of hot exahuast gases. Rubber seal in the base of the upper half of the OD connects the top of the copper waterp pipe.

underload/ on plane is the area where the water pump is literally out of the water. the cavitation plate is above water, so your water pump is above water.
that exaust cavity is now filled with hot exaust gas and the exaust water thru the riser..
the base of the pump, the suction side is now above water trying to suck water, not hot exaust and exaust water. a previous overheat can damage the rubber coupling for the copper water tube where it enters the water pocket cover and can also damage the water pocket cover.
you can check for any leaks here by testing with muffs before you join the lower to the upper. should be no leakage anyplace.
