"Thanks for info on trim sender unit, got it working on my 1984 Formula. I now have to get the temp gauge and tach working. Where do each of these pick up from? Color codes of wires?
The temp gauge seems to stay at 130 even when I shut off the key. I do see a slight deflection when I turn on the key. The exhaust cooling towers(through hull exhaust) do get very warm to the touch. Can not keep your hand on them. Normal?
Thanks.

"You should be able to keep your hand on the risers without any pain. If not, there is not enough water flow for some reason. Either the impeller in the pump is shot, or your system is partially plugged up.

It sounds like your temp gauage is shot. It should zero with the key off. I would replace it first. It gets its signal from a tan wire that passes thru pin #3 of the 10 pin barrel plug. The tan wire connects to the temp sender on the T'stat housing; the sender completes the circuit to engine ground.

The tach is powered by a gray wire that passes thru pin #2 and goes to the - connection at the coil.
