Teleflew rotary steering cable question

Got a boat in the shop with a bad steering cable. Looked up a replacement, but they are different: this one has a big nut on each end of the cable. The newer cables have a nut on one end only, with some kind of clamping deal on the steering box.

Note: This is a Teleflex (spelled right this time!) ROTARY box, not a gear and rack type.

Anyone seen this before? Also, if I bought a new cable, could I yank the guts out and re-use the old outer cable?
