TBI repair kit

Hello All,

a few years ago i picked up a VP TBI repair kit(3857396) and installed it hoping my rich running cold start might go away(it didn't:mad:) so I still have the original TBI fuel metering body with the injectors and I thought I should rebuild it for a spare.

Are there rebuild kits for the injectors and metering body?

thank you,

Tony F.

Have you tried adjusting the throttle butterfly? With the engine up to normal temp run the engine around 1500 rpms and then unplug the idle air control IAC for the throttle body then adjust the engine idle stop at 650rpms then plug in the idle air control and the computer should control engine idle speed. The idle stop screw for a normal carb turns into a antidiesel screw for a FI system it keeps the throttle butterfly from fully closing when you quickly go to slow speed. The idle air control fully closes when the throttle butterfly is opened up. It sounds like it is starving for air on a cold start when the computer holds the injectors open longer (pulse width) until the engine reaches a certain temp. The engine coolant temp senser ECT the one with two wires tells the computer engine temp and the throttle position senser combined tell the computer how long to hold the injectors open. When adjusting the throttle butterfly screw disconnect the throttle cable and get it to idle 650rpm with the IAC disconnected then adjust the cable to fit.

Thank you kimcrwbr1,

Have you tried adjusting the throttle butterfly? I don't recall there being any adjustment for the throttle other than the cable threaded end, but I will take a look to confirm.

Will the TPS accept the new position of the butterflies as the idle speed of 650 rpm?

thanks again for your help.
