"I have a Mercury 150HP XRI. The motor runs great, but the last time out, I heard a ticking or a tapping noise. Is this from carbon build up or something else?"

"That depends where the ticking/tapping came from - could be literally anything from a bad gear in the lower unit, to something that worked loose and is being brushed by the flywheel.

You will have to narrow down where the noise is coming from...."
