TAMD40 Fuel pump leak

Related problem: The boatyard reports a badly leaking fuel injections pump on our TAMD41B. The part (860985) is no longer available. They recommend removing it and sending it out for a rebuild.

A diesel engine service company used by a local Volvo Penta dealer says that a rebuild averages $1400 but can vary widely depending on parts needed. The yard will do it for time and materials, including sending it out. They estimate $4000 but that might be worst case.

New "compatible" fuel injection pumps - many and probably all made in China - are listed on Amazon and eBay for around $1200.

Does anyone have any experience with these "compatible" pumps? Any opinions?

I would get yours rebuilt. Had one for my dozer rebuilt by "diesel injection service" (name of company) and that was years ago and it's still running strong
