I have a Tahoe q4 SF with a mercrusier 4.3L sterndrive. How do you get to the oil filter to change it when changing the oil every year? Is there a special tool or technique that will help to reach this filter?

"There is a special tool that fits on the end of any 3/8" drive ratchet wrench that fits over the end of the filter. Its available in almost any auto parts store. I've found these to be better than the "strap type" tools. To make sure you get the correct one (there are various sizes), buy a replacement oil filter and make sure the tool fits that correctly. Be sure to "catch" the oil that will drip out when doing this. Some folks use a disposable diaper, some use a pan... It all "depends" (pun intended) on how much space you have."

I just grab my oil filter with sandpaper. If it was installed correctly it will usually come off.

Buy the remote filter kit. Yo

Buy the remote filter kit. You'll have to stand on your head to install it but it puts the filter up in front of the port exhaust manifold. It goes on easier if you remove the exhaust manifold.

"Your arms must be longer than mine as I can't even reach the filter as it sits way down under the right side of the engine. I have tried to crawl through the battery access cover but still can not reach it. What am I missing. Also, where can I get the remote filter kit?

Thanks all

"Dan...

I sypathise with you. I too own a Q4 SF 4.3 (2005). I know exactly what you mean. That oil filter is a bugger to get at. I'm also thinking of putting a remote set up on it.

Guy, I'd take a copy of the email you sent to Dan to see what you came up with.

Thanks
