"I just got a merc tach & voltometer. The wiring harness instructions are for tach & power trim ind. only , they look just like the ones in my manuel. How should i wire it? The back of the voltometer looks just like the back of the p/t ind.with a S,G & I post. Should i run the brown/white wire to S post of the voltometer like the p/t ind. or just the 2 jumpers on the G&I. Thanks ya,ll have been great help"

"the tach should plug into the control box which is already wired for a tach. Basically grey is the tach signal, purple is power, black is ground. All you need for the volt meter is anything thats powered under the dash and ground."

Ok i got the right harness mad

Ok i got the right harness made sure it was wired right( checked 4 times)pluged it in nothing. So i got out the circut tester got a light on the ign. but nothing on the pulse. unpluged it tested the pins in the control same thing. Were should i go from here? its there a sender? Thank You

The tach works off an AC pulse

The tach works off an AC pulse from the stator. The connection is made at the rectifier. Thats why if the rectifier is bad it normally kills the pulse to the tach.

"sears has a tach, volt and dw

"sears has a tach, volt and dwell meter for 34.95. If you get this and hook it up to the grey wire and it don't work, then it is you rectifer, which in turn cause problems with your charging . With this unit you can use it for allot of things"

"Ok i got the voltometer worki

"Ok i got the voltometer working geting 13 or 14 when i start it.Going to get a meter this week end i need one anyway, but you say free? what if it an,t the rectifier can i track it back some how ( without eleracuting my self) lol thanks"

"Well i got the meter.Found the rectifier & the problem. The 2 yellow leads coming from the stator where corroded in two. This came as a surpise because the rest of the motor is very clean, with little or no corrosion.I checked the rectifier& stator both were good.Cut the shroud off the leads. The corrosion gos all the way to the stator. There was enuff to splice on some new leads, but it won,t last. What can be causeing this corrosion?I know the motor was in salt water. Will i need a new stator or can i replace the leads after removeing it? Thanks PS the tach works now lol"
