Does it have a good ground on the gauge?
The signal wire will not be a steady voltage, it see's pulses of voltage. Can you get a loaner hand held Tach from a local auto parts
A Tiny Tach would be my suggestion. They are inexpensive, have a stick on piece of reflective tape for the rotating element, and a hand held Infrared output signal you aim at the tape and it gives you a digital answer. There is a brand of TT that has a wire you wrap around one of the spark plug wires for the comparison.....They may take 2 persons to accomplish the comparison...one at the Helm steering the boat and one taking the measurement.Does it have a good ground on the gauge?
