Tachometer gage question

I just purchased A older Teleflex tachometer model # 30288 was wondering if I need part # 17461A-2 module assembly to run the Tachometer on a 1981 40hp 2 stroke outboard mercury thunderbolt motor?

If the Teleflex tach has switches on the back try it w/o the module that says it is for use w/Merc. tachs...does Teleflex make tachs for Mercury?
