Does anyone know what type of

Does anyone know what type of a tach I need for 1970 Johnson 3 cyl. 60HP?

Looked on e-bay ... they have something like 2-4-6 cylinder switchable types of tachometers. And then also like 3-pole??? What is that? What are the poles in this sense?

Can any1 shine a light on me?

Much thanks.

"The poles refer to the poles

"The poles refer to the poles or number of windings or coils around the alternator. Like on my Evinrude 1971 60HP it has a 12 pole alternator under the flywheel and thus for every revolution, 12 pulses of electrons will come thru on the tach cable, in AC form of course. Then the tach interprets these pulses, and depending on the revolution of the engine, you get a deflection on the tach.

That tach on ebay should work just fine. I was looking for one myself. A Teleflex Lido tach with the built in hourmeter. They're not cheap.

How's that 60hp of yours holding out? Mine has been needing lots of parts lately like: Amplifier Assembly, Rectifier, Shift Solenoids, carbs rebuilt, Water Pump and much much more. Driving me nuts.

Anyways good luck."
