Tachometer displaying double normal RPM level

I have a 2003 Crownline boat with a 350/300 Mercruiser engine that has 300 hours on it. I have recently changed the oil and oil filter. The next trip on the lake, the tachometer displayed almost double the normal level (Faria gauge). What do yall think the problem is? Help is appreciated.

lay down and cycle the switch on the gauge back and forth a few times set it at 8 and try it again.

Ayuh,... I agree, Wiggle the button on the back of the gauge...

If that doesn't work I think Faria will replace it for a nominal fee.
