I have a 2006 Merc four stroke Model: 75ELPT 4S, Serial # 18271556.* The tach is not working, I have a service manual in which the first step is to remove the "green" wire I have no such color of wire.
* This is a Lowe Stinger boat. The Tach is Veethree electronics 780049PMNB & it is a plug in style (original & when I took it out it was set @ 6P
I have the following wires & did get info from Veethree: Blue (power to light), Blk (ground), Purple (ignition), Gray (sender)
* With key turned on (boat NOT running)* I have Blue 12volts, Purple 12volts, Gray 1.7volts & ground must be o.k. as I used it for these test's.
* I have worked on 2 cycle's before & everytime the tach was not working the charging also did not work, replaced voltage reg & all good. However in this case charging is working 14.5 - 15volts. By service manual there is only a ground & red power wire comming from the regulator / rectifier. Also the service manual is very unclear as to where the gray wire goes on engine.
*
** ? - Where does this model of 4 stroke get its tach signal. Yes I realize a 4 stroke needs a certain type of tach (I believe as with the original any thing with a 6P setting. Can I use my voltmeter & with boat running back probe the gray wire, will this give me some kind of reading.
* Out of curiousity I tried a shop test of tach, used a battery & put black to ground, purple to positive & then used another positive lead to tickel the sender & this did make the tach to read a little.
