"Hi folks,I invested in a new three blade prop and hit the sea,fuunnnnn, however, there's always a 'however', while out I noticed the tach didn't register all the way up to 5000+,my ear tells me I had a lot more than the 2000rpm that it was showing, this tach is a merc tach for thunderbolt ignition,The installation instructions,yes I read them,

say two ways to install,one, the way I did it,blk.-gnd, white-+, bwn-sig, the other way mentions a module? Any ideas greatly appreciated"

"Noel, Depending on the year of the motor, you could have the wrong signal going to the tach. If the tach is a standard one (merc or teleflex, and the motor has thunderbolt ignition (distributor or ADI), the brown tach sender wire should be connected to the yellow stator wire at the rectifier.

If the tach is an older Merc one, it may be driven by the switchbox, and the brown tach wire will be connected to the switchbox"

"Hi Chris1956,Thanks for the reply, My merc is 1969,distributor,thunderbolt ignition,and the tach is 1978,thunderbolt ignition. I have already fried a standard teleflex and $80 on ebay I really don't want to fry, fries rise my blood pressure,installation instructions say: blk - +,which I wrote incorrectly in my earlier post,white - lamp wire,bwn -neg.I did have the instructions beside me when installing,so I'm puggled
