Tach not reading right

"Hey guys i have 1990 sunbird

"Hey guys i have 1990 sunbird with a 4.3 omc in it . I really dont no much about this boat, just picked it up recently. My question is on the back of the tach it has several different settings believe it shows 2,3,4,5,6. i would assume that it needs to be on the six but not real sure. It doesnt say cylinders beside it, but something about pull/rev. The tach doesnt seem to be right when the boat is running. Can anyonre help please. Thanks."

"that's odd, usually there's cylinders marked on them, but a 6 cylinder engine fires 3 cylinders per revolution if that helps... I think I would try 3."
