this is a 5.7 Gi-b engine, 2002. in a wellcraft excalibur 230. the tach is inop. can anyone give me any troubleshooting tips?

Check to see if the connections on the back of the tach are clean and tight, check to see if all connections around the distributor are clean and tight. If your tach is bad, check to see if there is a lifetime warranty on it. I know that Faria guages have a lifetime warranty, they will repair or replace your guage for basically the shipping charges (around $40 or so).

Tach wire is grey. Chances are it's the tach but check your engine harness plug for corrosion or a receeded pin too. You should also check the signal wire for continuity to rule that out.

Check if the gauge itself is working by grounding the signal wire. The needle on the front of the gauge should go all the way to the right

Thanks for your help. I grounded the signal terminal on the rear of the tach and nothing happened. The other problem that I have, the trim gage reads full up. when I ground the sender terminal on that gage, it goes full down. I checked the sender wire at the gage to ground and ohms are almost infinity and never change as I move the drive up and down. there is a white wire at the sender that is outside the black harness that was broken. I jumpered it and still nothing.
