How do I hook up a Tach for m

How do I hook up a Tach for my motor. Is it simply wired in or is it more complex? When I lift the cowling off and look where the battery and starter wires go in I have noticed a couple of capped wires sitting there. What do these wires do. Also does anyone know where to find 60's style gauges?

" Mike.... You need a tachomet

" Mike.... You need a tachometer that operates off the charging system. The tach must be capable of being set to operate off a six (6) pulse charging system (OMC's setup).

OMC's tachs will have a dial on the back, set it to six (6). The tach usually has four wires.

RED = To light switch.
Black = To ground.
Purple = To 12v supply but only when key is ON.
Gray = To Yellow/Gray rectifier wire. This wire is usually all GRAY at the instrument wiring harness.
