Tach and Speedo Problem-Please Help! 2004 5.0 L

I have a 2004 5.0 Mercruiser Alpha on a Glastron SX195. My tach was sticky last year and got stuck by the end of the summer. Speedo just quit last summer. My question is this. How do you test either one without removing and if I need to remove, how hard is it. I am a farm boy, so I can tinker with about anything. Just need a pro to give me a pointer or two. Guages are Faria brand.Thanks

Time to replace the tach. The speedo works off of a small inlet on the front of the lower unit on the out drive. Water is forced in the outlet and compresses the air in the hose to actuate the speedo. Make sure the hole is clean. Make sure the tube is connected between the lower unit and the transom assembly. It connects to the lower right behind the front mounting bolt for the lower unit. If you remove the hose from the tach you should be able to blow through the line backwards towards the drive from the helm. If you get a short piece of hose and connect it to the speedo you can blow in the hose and actuate the speedo to see if it works..

Here is what I found so far. I took the tach out and sent it off to Faria along with $30 for repair. Back in 4-6 weeks they say.
I took the tube off of the back of the speedo and could not blow back thru it to the back of the boat. I then went to the back of the boat where the tube has a quick connect fitting on the outdrive where I broke it apart to replace the impeller. I disconnected the quick connect and could blow easily back thru it from under the dash to the back of the boat. So, I guess it is stopped up some where between the water inlet hole on the leg and the 6 inches or so to the quick connect point. I did not have any extra hose to connect to the speedo port on the back of the guage and blow and watch it to see if it moved. I will get some small wire or something to clear out the water intake hole. May be a spider nest or bug or stick or something in it. just up****** ya'll.
