"My 2004 Yamaha T8 w/ only 20-30 hrs on it(It's a kicker on my I/O boat)now has no water from pee hole when running. When I attach hose to flush device, get only a trickle (had been a strong stream). Should I remove hose and push a piece of 50 lb mono in to dislodge something? Or?"

"Bruce, if the impeller has never been changed, even with zero hours on a 4 year old engine, it could be shot or dry rotted and now either not pumping or bits could be blocking your water tube.

Pull the lower unit, if all looks fine with the water pump try forcing water from the hose up the water tube. If you still only get a trickle, you obviously have a blockage or build-up in either the water tube, water jacket or tell-tale hose itself..."

"thanks very much. Problem is, I'm living on the boat in Key West for a couple of mos., trailer is stored elsewhere, and can't pull the Yamaha with boat in water. Seems risky for me to pull lower unit at the dock. I could take boat elsewhere to some shallows to inspect impeller. Got any reference for me on the procedure? Since I now get only a trickle of flush water (w/ hose) I figured problem must be blockage on top somewhere. Flush water does flow out of prop area. I've always kept motor tipped up at dock and always flushed after running it in saltwater (Jan & Feb only, for 3 yrs) so seems unlikely could be any kind of buildup. I really appreciate your response and look forward to any other comments."

problem solved. small barnacle had been sucked up and lodged in pee hole. poked it out w/ heavy mono line with engine running. apologies and thanks to graham; I should have bent over and LOOKED up into pee hole before getting alarmed.
