T&T refill. 1997 48 hp 48SPL

Re: T&T refill. 48SPL

Manually raise the engine to it highest tilt position. Fill the reservoir to overflowing. Replace reservoir fill plug.

Another member will answer that question. I retired in 1991... the 1997 unit may be different.

Re: T&T refill. 48SPL

Thanks anyway, my husband has been looking for two days for the place to refill. It is entirely different than our other engine.

Take a look at the Evinrude parts diagrams: http://shop2.evinrude.com/Index.aspx?s1=jr7ldfnlndq0rcnr9lfqqmrbu2&catalog_id=0&siteid=1

I didn't see the 48SPL listed, but most likely the 50HP models will be identical. The SPL's were just engines that were premix only. Usually the SPL models were simply rated 2HP lower than the equivalent VRO equipped motors.

For many years the reservoir was on the starboard side of the T&T unit. As Joe said, if you lift the motor to it's highest position you should see a cylindrical unit on the right side and a large slotted screw or plug at the top. Simply remove the screw/plug, fill to overflowing as Joe said, reinstall screw/plug, run it up and down the full travel several times. Then, run it all the way up, remove the plug, and top off the fluid and you're done.

Here's a picture of the T&T unit from a 1997 50HP model. I'm willing to bet yours is identical. Item #4 should the filler plug you need to remove.
