Sync N’Cruz

I have wanted to install Sync N’Cruz on my 2007 engines but, it’s expensive. I found this homebrew set up on another site(https://www.carolinaclassicboatowners.com/forums/threads/5186-Crusader-RPM-Cruise-Control) Looks like this guy did his homework. I think I’m going to give it a try. What do you guys think? I have the sync harness it’s used with the Murphy Powerview’s I installed. It looks like a simple set up.

Hooking everything up.

A word about the rocker switches. The center terminal is the Arm, it will be connected to the lower terminal when the rocker is pressed up, it will be connected to the upper terminal when the rocker is pressed down.

Look at the attached drawing. The ECM and 20 Pin Boat Harness connector is already on your engine. The 20 pin connector is a round connector that is on the starboard aft part of the engine, under and a bit forward of your heat exchanger. There should be nothing plugged into it. If you bought the Crusader Boat Speed Control harness plug it into this connector and route the other two connectors up to your helm. If you didn’t buy the harness locate the Orange/Green, Orange/Light Blue, and Orange wire going into that 20 pin connector, cut them leaving enough wire at the connector so you can reconnect it if you ever want to. Butt Splice a wire on each wire (not the end going into the connector, the end going to the ECM) and route them up to your helm. I would use a 20AWG, 3 conductor shielded cable for this but three individual wires will probably be ok.

If you bought the harness cut the 12 Pin connector off of it and tape off the Light Blue/Black, Red/Yellow, and Brown wire. You won’t be using these. Put Quick Connects on the Orange/Green, Orange/Light Blue, and Orange wires. Connect the Orange/Green wire to the center terminal of the Inc/Dec switch. Connect the Orange/Light Blue wire to the center terminal of the Set/Cancel Switch, and the Orange wire to the lower terminal of the On/Off switch.

If you didn’t buy the harness put Quick Connects on the three extension wires you brought up to the helm. Connect the extension wire from the Orange/Green wire to the center terminal of the Inc/Dec switch. Connect the extension wire from the Orange/Light Blue wire to the center terminal of the Set/Cancel Switch, and the extension wire from the Orange wire to the lower terminal of the On/Off switch.

Connect the upper terminals of all three switches to a good ground. Connect the lower terminal of the Inc/Dec and the Set/Cancel switch to the terminal on your ignition switch that has 12V when the switch is in the run position.

You should be ready to cruise….

Having never used the crusader product, i can only share my decades of experience doing auto and marine electrical work...overall, assuming the asserted state is +12VDC, it should be fine...I'm sure you realize the "left" switch (SPST) is "normal" one where the other two (SPDT) are "momentary"...Finally, I'd suggest using switches rated for the marine environment....unless you like to replace them frequently..
