Swivel bracket model tag

I am restoring a 1975 Evinrude Hustler and wonder if you guys know a good way to remove the tag without damage?
I also want to save the rivets if I can, or buy more.

THANKS!

Look very closely at what you are calling rivets. You'll find that they have a "hex head" and are to be removed as one would remove any right hand threaded screw. Curious as to why you're removing that plate.... damaged transom bracket?

LOL ..... gonna take a tiny nutdriver!

I am having to take the bracket off an old Johnson green motor for my off white Evinrude motor and the durn thing also got painted black, so will need striping.

THANKS!!!!! .... guess I will put my strongest glasses on and look closer!

Ground off some needle nose visegrips and they screwed right out.

Probably put them back in with hemostats and same pliers.

THANKS for the tip.

Just a comment for others that may be reading this: SOME motors have round head "rivets" holding the tag. Those aren't actually rivets, but "drive screws". They have threads and are merely hammered in. You can remove that kind by punching them out from the backside (if accessible). Otherwise, cut a slot across the head with a hacksaw and back them out with a screwdriver. New ones are available from mcmaster.com

Before installing those small plate screws...... Look closely at the threads. If the threads are indeed machine screw type threads, then of course they will need to be screwed in.

BUT... if those threads look instead like a long tapered spiral... sort of like a stretched out sheet metal screw thread, just sit the screw in the hole and gently tap it in with a small hammer. It will self screw itself in.
