I have lost fire on my '86

I have lost fire on my '86 35hp Mercury outboard. I do not have fire in either cylinder. It seems unlkely that the problem resides anywhere but in the switchbox. Is there a way to test this out to see if I am right before I make my purchase?

"Richard, the only way to determine the switchbox is bad is by proving that every other ignition component is working properly.

Unlike every other part of the igintion, there is no test for the switchbox....

And while I'm not saying it's impossible that they fail, I have seen bad triggers, stators, coils and wiring, but personally have never found a bad switchbox on a small Merc that I have worked on. OMC's powerpacks fail regularly, Mercs switchboxes are quite durable...

So like you elude to, test everything else first before you chuck the many bucks for a new switchbox only to find it's a bad stator etc..."
