Hi , can anyone tell me what the best value replacement for an aq125a would be to fit a reconditioned 290 leg without too much trouble.
The boat is a 24ft dory type hull and top speed not really a concern more interested in reliability and cost many thanks.

The AQ125A is an engine designation. The 290 is a drive model.

With the change to a 290 drive, the gain would hydraulic titl/trim, and a very slight increase to the size of the exhaust outlet only.

Basilforty, if I understand correctly you are trying to adapt a 4 cylinder engine to a 290 drive to replace your old AQ125A. In that case, I would suggest an AQ131. Another alternative would be getting from an auto wrecker a 4 cylinder Volvo engine with a B230 block, then transplant all the marine parts from your current engine to the car engine; that is, distributor, camshaft, fuel pump, alternator, starter, etc. Suitable cars would be 244 Volvos from 1985 to 1993. If you search the forum you will see that this topic has been discussed several times.
