"Mark, you can paint a motor just about any colour. Make sure you use marine paint and if you want white I would suggest the paint for Johnson's.
Read the can on proper prep and all should be fine. As long as you don't disturb the primer coat under the original paint the process is a little quicker.
Depending on the size of the motor you may use two or three spray cans and then at least a can of clear-coat (I use the larger cans from an automotive place - cheaper and work great).
The decals can be expensive and a bit tricky to get on, so take your time and follow the directions.
I have restored many motors (cosmetically). Count on it taking you a few days (waiting time between coats etc), but after about a week you have a brand new looking motor.
A typical paint/decal job cost's about 100 bucks in material, depending on how original/elaborate you want to get with the decals. I get custom ones done up for under 40 bucks..."
