I took off the lower unit of my suzuki dt65 (1985 I think), and once I was trying to put it back, the gear rod sticks up to high and the shaft to which it attaches to in the outboard doesn't reach it, and if it does, it's impossible to change gear. I think i might have pulled the gear rod out of it's place when removing the unit. I've tried turning the rod counterclockwise as some other posts recommended and nothing happened. I might have left it in the wrong gear when removing the lower unit. Any ideas as to what I should try?
