"I wrapped some fishing line around my prop, which ended up tearing up the oil prop oil seal. Luckily I noticed this before any water got in the lower unit, although it was only a matter of time.

I removed the prop and can see the seal in question around propeller shaft. It would appear I need to remove the bearing housing which should allow me to change the seal. The bearing housing is held on by two bolts, which I have removed. At this point the bearing housing is pressed tightly against the engine and won't budge. I haven't worked at it much as I don't want to damage anything.

My question is this… Can I remove the bearing housing without pulling the entire shaft? My Clymer manual goes right from undoing the bolts to pulling the entire shaft. If this is possible does anyone have any tips so I don't damage the bearing housing? I don't want to complicate things any further than necessary..."
