"I have a 2 stroke 140 Suzuki (about 2000 model). Its a good motor in good condition, just serviced, new plugs etc. Recently, for no known reason the bottom two cylinders have stopped firing. Can anyone tell me if this motor has a "limp mode" of operation, designed to protect the engine in the event of low oil, overheating or similar problem? ie are there sensors (which may have gone faulty) that would tell the CDI to close down the 2 bottom cylinders? Any help would really be appreciated."

"Hi Just-in-time,
Thanks for your quick response.
I would like to get a workshop manual; can you advise a good source?
Also, I have a voltmeter, but what is a DVA?
While I will have a look at the coils, can you please help me with my original question? Do these Suzuki outboards have some form of engine protection system which can cause the CDI to shutdown two of the cylinders?
Thanks,
Craig."
