Hey everyone, motor is a 1998 suzuki dt115.
When I first got the boat it ran fine, smoked a decent anount but figured fir an okder 2 dtroke thats okay. I also smelled raw fuel a bit but fogured maybe it was from the hullside.
Was just checking over everything with it runnijg with the cowling off and noticed that the fuel pump had fuel streaming from it off of a rubber nipple on the end of the pump. I figured since there's a fuel leak I definitely need to replace it, the OEM fuel pump is $600 so I went with a Chinese one for $100, the pump seems to operate how it should, I took a video of turning the key with the new pump connected to the wiring but the fuel out disconnected and it shot out fuel right away.
Well, when i hooked it all back up with the new pump, the idle was noticeably worse and when giving the motor throttle it would act up, I went ahead and took the boat out to see how it would perform and it did not want to move any faster than maybe 5mph.
I checked all my fuel lines for swelling or blockages and all were good, I checked the inside of the VST and it was nice and clear, and I cleaned the throttle body a bit but it didn't seem dirty to begin with. I went ahead and assumed the lift pump worked fine as the boat doesn't shut off and I figured that's just meant for the low engine speeds on this setup.
Well, after that nothing changed, after a bit of conversation with a friend I was thinning it was the fuel pressure regulator, as he had the same issue, the fuel pump leaning at the rubber nipple, and after it was replaced the boat wouldn't go over ~10mph, and when he got the fuel pressure regulator replaced all was well.
So I did that, and I ran the motor for a few minutes on land with water hooked up, and I could instantly hear that it was running better, it idled much smoother and I let it idle for a few minutes, and then I gave it throttle and with ease it went right up like it should. I figured it was good to go as it all made sense.
Well, today I went to take it out and sadly the issue was not fixed.
Can it be a sensor thats causing the issue? Like a safety fail.
I dont expect a lift pump or a throttle body to take a crap that quick, so that's why I assumed they're fine, why would they go get clogged or go bad that fast you know.
The culprit is either the fuel pump or maybe some type of sensor from what im thinking.
Please If anyone can help me out and knows these motors or just knows what may be going on I'd seriously appreciate the help
I have a video, ill post the link so anyone interested can watch it. If you can't just click on it copy the link and paste it on a new tab.
