"First time member to the board and had a question regarding internal corrosion. A dealer/mechanic who I have had good relations with informed me that he was getting a number of engines ranging from '99-'03 and 2 from '04 that were experiencing severe internal corrosion requiring replacement of power head, etc. I believe he stated there had been a couple of the bigger block V-6, but most were in the 60-140 hp range. Any information on this would be appreciated. Mine is a '04 200 with about 400 hours on it. Salt water use and religiously flushed after every use and maintained well."

I am in the same position. See the post above. Suzuki is calling it corrosion but its clearly a defective engine. The mechanic at my marina has several with the same issue all out of "warranty".

"Yes I found this corrosion problem on my 2001 DF 90. The engine holder had an exhaust leak at the
carbon steel plug. Upon further inspection, pointing a strong LED flashlight into the plug hole the damage was extensive. I have about 500 hours on it and flushed with Salt- Away and water whenever I possibly could. What troubles me is that the corrosion probably extends well into the powerhead and oil pan. How could it not.
I can't believe a repair would get me very far before more corosion would appear somewhere else. My only thought is maybe the internal powerhead alloys are better than other engine parts. Thats probably wishfull thinking. Why should I spend $2000+ plus on a repair? I'd be better served getting a new motor I believe. Suzuki better respond to this in some way or they will feel the wrath of some very upset outboard engine owners. I will go out my way to inform other owners of these problems and tell them to never-ever buy a fricking Suzuki again.Other than the corrosion it (WAS!)a great motor."

"As far as I know I am not experiencing the problem.........yet. I just found out about this the other day and according to my source, depending on the extent of the damage, it could run into several thousands of dollars worth of repairs. I have another warranty issue with Suzuki regarding some cosmetic defects it is not dealing with on the cowling. That I can fix relatively easily. This a different animal. They had best respond or will be losing a great deal of business."

2004 I repowered with a suzuki df90. Put 23 hours on it and flushed it out after each run. The last few years I have had to travel and stored the boat, but ran it now and then with ear muffs and fresh water.this season found the block cracked and corrosion holes on the block port side near where the head bolts on. Suzuki says to bad, its out of warranty. Thinking about a buying a suzuki? I got 23 hours for $ 9000.00
