Help, 1st major problem in 40 years of boating. I have a 1998 DT140 EFI, 1st time out, 10 minutes on the river, high water, possible debree under the water. Crusing along about 2800 rpms engine suddenly over revs and I pull it out of gear. Engine stops, wont start again. Get towed in, get home and put start charger on battery. Engine starts, runs 10 secounds and makes a screetching noise and stops. repeated this again 5 minutes later. Took prop in, it had spun. Repaired and reinstalled. Engine runs fine but put in gear and prop does not turn. with motor off, in neutral the prop freewheels, put in gear it will not turn. Is it possible it's just a shearpin or is that wishfull thinking....NEED DIAGNOSIS PLEASE

Re: Suzuki DT140

There are many possibilites here. First of all, check the lower unit for water, bad oil, etc. Remove the LU to make sure the dirve shaft is not frozen or hard to turn. I'm sure the water pump could be changed or at least inspected.

Once these issues are worked out, run the engine again and work on the stalling issue.
