Supporting a 3.0 without removing the outdrive.

Hi Guys

When supporting a 3.0 motor so you can remove the front mount I have always pulled the drive. My reasoning is that if my engine crane/ support bar lets go the input shaft for the O/D won't be bent when the front of the motor comes crashing down. What I am wondering is if I were to slide the outdrive back on the 6 gimbal studs would that keep the shaft out of the coupler and prevent bending it if in fact the engine support let go. I am getting old and if I don't have to pull the drive all the way off that is a plus for me. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I just had our drive off here, I remember noticing how far along the splines the grease was pushed (i.e. how far it slid into the coupler). Only going by memory but I bet its further than the studs are long.

Hi Josh and Bt

Thank you both for your speedy replies. I will just have to use a helper. I was looking for an easy way out. The worst thing about getting old is losing strength and energy. Maybe I'll get back into the gym at 53

Thanks
