"How should I go about repairing the hole in my hull? The transducer doesn't work, nor is it hooked up to anything. So, I removed it because it was starting to leak. I's rather not re -glass the hole. Is there a thru hull fitting that I can install? Has anyone been through this situation?"

"A wooden plug and Sikaflex on

"A wooden plug and Sikaflex on both sides should work. However, I would probably use a bit of glass to be on the safe side. Too many wooden transoms have rotted because of unsealed holes."

"If you replace the fitting an

"If you replace the fitting and don't connect it (you didn't say that you needed it anyway), why not put the old one back in and seal it better?

Otherwise, find out who the original supplier was and see if they have a replacement."

"Jim, the fitting was plastic

"Jim, the fitting was plastic and it was damaged due to the boat being trailered. It is not in good enough condition to be re-used. The transducer is not hooked up to anything, so there is no need to purchase another one for replacement.

El Pescador, where do you suggest that I get a plug / glass at?"

"Bob, what I have done in the

"Bob, what I have done in the past is measuring the diameter of the hole, then get a hardwood dowel fom a hardware store to make the plug. Afterwards, I hammer the plug into the hole (it must go in tight), then I use the resin from a normal Bondo fibreglass relair kit to seal the hole on both sides."

"Bob- if the trailer has rolle

"Bob- if the trailer has rollers, I would glass it completely. The last thing you need it a roller punching the plug out. It's on the bottom so a perfect color match isn't as important."

"Wouldn't it be easier to install some kind of brass or stainless steel fitting? Do they make something like that? This way, if I need to use that hole for something in the future, it's already there."

"Yeah, they make them that way

"Yeah, they make them that way but most aren't flush to the hull. Plus, most of them are like raw water pickups so you would have to install some kind of cap and trust that to not leak."
