I have a 1995 Johnson 150hp sunk completely. pickled cylinders then removed oil. When plugs are removed engine turns but with plugs in will not turn. What could be the cause?

Re: Submerged engine

This is serious trouble!!-------How long since the engine engine was recovered ?----------------------The manuals clearly state that the motor must be started as soon as possible.---The " soon " means within 6 hours or less.---If not get help from someone who knows how to deal with this situation.-----------Galvanic corrosion sets in and will destroy the motor internals------------Do not wait get a shop to help !

Re: Submerged engine

As above, the scenario on underwater engines is to get that engine running immediately in order to prevent rust damage to its internal components. If the engine turns (cranks over) in a normal fashion with the plugs removed but not with the plugs installed, the only cause is excessive compression due to the oil within the cylinder(s).

Re: Submerged engine

Maybe the starter motor is still full of water as well.----------These things should be taken to a shop where they know what steps to take ( saves a bunch of money )., but as always people would rather listen to their wallets to learn these expensive lessons.
