Stuck in forward

replacement lu, put togetherand stuck in forward with ear muff and hose,fired it up and stays in forward. removed lu, tried turning prop/shift shaft, both ways and turns engine over one way and clicks other way. the shaft will turn prop either way, but when hold back with hands,prop clicks and doesnt turn one certain way.cant hold prop back other way,how can i shift it into neutral or reverse by hand?.tried ccw,and cw,by hand can do it continuously one way, clicks other.


please help....how can i assemble lu to work correctly with shifter?"

"remove lower unit, turn shift

"remove lower unit, turn shift shaft with pliers ccw until prop spins freely. Re assemble with controls in neutral, wiggle flywheel to align splines. If neutral can't be found on lower unit something is wrong, do not install."
