Welp anything worth doing is worth doing twice.... went in to double check valve lash because apparently I like pain and suffering. Valve lash was off on #3 exhaust... fixed it... when I put the valve cover back on, I tried to torque the valve cover flange nuts down to spec and bam, stripped one of the studs.
I ordered helicoils for M6 through M10, figured it has to be one of these sizes. If I'm lucky its just the top of the bolt that holds the flange nut, but I think its acutally the tap in the block that holds the stud in place. The flange nut (that sits on top of the valve cover) just spins and spins and spins. I'm assuming getting the valve cover off now will take steady pressure with a pry bar while trying to back the nut off.
Anybody been here before? I'm going to do all 6 studs, figuring I did not overtorque the nut (maybe it was greasy and maybe I did) and blame the PO for this.
If you have been here before, what is the torque to put the new head cover bolt back in the block?
Final question, can I run the boat like this? On muffs all seals appear solid, no leaks. It's just the one valve cover stud.
