"thought I'd share this fix-
I bought a 25HP 'Rude and the drain plug was stripped and someone had tried to use teflon tape to fix it... no good.
so,
I simply retapped the hole to the next size I could find which was M10 X 1.5 Metric (coated the tap with grease to catch chips of aluminum). Funny the 1.5 pitch is almost the same as the standard OMC 3/8 coarse plug.

Then I ground a M10 X 1.5 bolt I found into a plug shape on the grinder (cut the bolt short, and ground the head round and thin like the plug was), then cut a screwdriver slot with a hacksaw and painted it with good paint.

It was a bit of a stretch to get the seal washer on, as the M10 is slightly larger obviously...but the washer does go on there with a bit of work. It held the torque and passed a pressure test A1.

total cost of repair = $0"

Great idea. You should market

Great idea. You should market oversized plug and tap kits. Sounds like a winner.
