Stringers

I have a 1988 22 foot Renken, hull is in great shape. I have gone all through the boat, new engine, drive, wiring, a few years ago and all that. My latest project is replacing floor/deck. I removed all old wooden floor and rug which had 2 soft spots so it was definitely time. Stringers, foam, gas tank etc., all in great shape with one quirk I have a question on. The stringers are free floating, they do not touch sides of boat.

Glass man doing the new floor for me said he thinks he has done 70 boats and never seen this. He asked if boat was loud or if I felt vibrations. My response was no to both, unless I'm just used to it.

Should I have him glass to sides or let them be?

Thanks in advance.

Not quite sure what you mean - the "stringers" are glassed in to the bottom, not the sides. They run fore and aft and are also usually attached to the transom. They support the hull bottom, the deck and the engine mounts.

Frames? Bearers? Beds?

Stringers that don't attach to the bottom of the hull, hold the engine, and sit on Frames are Beds.

Bruce.

I am fairly experienced at and in this area, but I too am not quite following you? Well, at least not well enough to comment!
How about a few photos accompanied with a more accurate discription?
