Stringer Shift Cable

intransit

New member
Hi all, I'm new here and hope someone can help. I was about to change the impeller in my 83 Stringer but noticed the transom seal needs to be replaced. Someone told me I can replace it without removing the lower unit but that sounded odd. Is it possible? I have to drop the lower to do the impeller anyway so maybe I should do the bellows at the same time. I've never removed the shift cable. How do I go about disconnecting it? Is it a real difficult job?

just remove the prop and taking off the trim fin anode and water director covers makes it easier to slip over with some hot soapy water

the impeller is in the bottom of the upper gearcase

I always remove the drive to change water pump impeller, but some report doing it on the boat upside down like that - tales me 20 minutes to remove the drive usually, but take the battery out of the boat first

Thanks for the replies. I'm still looking for the procedure for disconnecting the shift cable. I've already got the water pump out and thought it would be easier to replace the bellows if I could disconnect the lower drive.
