" Brian,

When you pi

" Brian,

When you pick a prop, you are attempting to correctly "gear" the outboad to the boat... I'm not sure how much you know about all this, so don't take offense, but bigger boat = lower pitch, larger size, lower top speeds; smaller boat = higher pitch, smaller size, higher top speeds. An outboard will operate the best if at WOT (wide open throttle), with a light load, it reaches about the top end of it's operating range. Check you manual, but it's probably going to be around 5000 RPM's. If you go to the michigan wheel website (I believe it's www.miwheel.com ) they have a form you can submit, you give them some information on the boat and engine, and they will get back to you with an estimate of what prop you should be using. The other option is to just obtain a tach, if you don't allready have one, hook it up and compare what the engine reaches at WOT with your current prop. If with a light load it is near the top of the operating range, you are OK. If it is under, you need to go down in pitch, if it is over, go up - how much up or down depends on how much it is over or under.
