"I bought a StingRay 3-4 years

"I bought a StingRay 3-4 years ago when I lived in Lake Tahoe because I needed every little help in getting my little 4 cylinder up on plane quicker in the high elevation when I had more than just a single passenger on board. It worked well for that purpose but it did take a few MPH off the top end and I also did not like the way the boat handled when it was installed, but it as tolerable.

I live in the flat lands of central California now and do the majority of my boating at sea level, so I don't use or need the StingRay down here because of the additional power I get being at sea level instead of 6200' elevation.

Bottom line for me is that it served it's purpose with tolerable side effects at minimal cost.

I've heard some say that it puts extra strain on your outdrive, but I cannot verify or disclaim that based upon my experience."

"I found the Stingray really u

"I found the Stingray really useful when I had my 17.5' with the AQ140A. Quick hole shot and more stable boat; you can walk port to starboard at full speed and the boat does virtually not rock. It also lifts the stern, which if combined with moving the trim pin to a position where the bow is a bit higher at high speed, it means lower wet hull surface, which translates into lower friction and higher speed.

A couple of undesirable side effects I found is that steering is a bit harder (no big deal) , and that the faster you go the lower goes the bow; the las point can only be corrected with power trim or with trim tabs.

Also, the extra strain in the outdrive should not be a concern unless we are talking about a very large boat.

Overall, I would recommend it for boats up to 20-22'. But beware, installing it on a 280 or a 290 outdrive is a real challenge, but a piece of cake on a 270
