Im repairing a 1985 689 series mariner 30 and the final job is to free up the pivot steering post . with immense force it will turn but it is not practically usable . i have the unit off and i want to seperate the pivot post from the bracket , i know i cant use heat as the bushes are plastic . Has anyone remove this post and are there any tips as to how it eventually comes apart . I have tried not so gentle persuasion with a hammer without any movement whatsoever . many thanks

Corrosion products often build up on the OUTSIDE of these bushings.-----This jams it all up.--------Needs to come apart to clean this white powder out.

any suggestions as to how to seperate , i have tried hitting it with a club hammer with no effect , i was worried there may be a cross retaining pin that i missed somewhere, is it just a case of brute force and a little luck ?

thanks , i did pull the copilot pin and the grease zert but i put wd in which appeared to have no effect , i will try again with power steering fluid leave it a day or so and try again , i'll let you know how it goes . many thanks to you both . wouldnt dream of hitting metal to metal learnt that one painfully a long time ago , thnx

thanks guys it did eventually come apart with a lot more of a wack than i thought it would need . only problem now is that the top half of the top bush has virtually disintergrated and its not possible to get a new one here in the canaries , do you think its ok to reaasemble with only the bottom half of the bearing or should i take a trip to the mainland and get a new one .
