Sticky substance in ignition connection??

In the big red bulb connector off the ignition line when I took the clamp off it and pulled that apart all the pins have this sticky substance on them and the connector side that the pin side plugs into has the sticky substance in the holes. Is this hurting anything??

Could be that someone put dielectric grease on there to keep corrosion down; if it's working correctly I'd leave it alone.
