"I finally got my 84 century 1

"I finally got my 84 century 195 out and running.
the merc 470 purrs like no other, But i noticed the steering seems too easy. After a run across the lake with waves from more than one direction, I found it to be hard keeping on course. At the launch, standing behind the outdrive, I pushed rather lightly and the outdrive swung to the right sending the steering wheel spinning.

Are there adjustments somewhere to tighten this up, or am I looking at a larger problem. The steering systems are not something I have played with as of yet so any info would be much appreciated."

"There are aftermarket drive stabilizers that would help that issue. They are kind of like a hydraulic shock absorber that stiffens and dampens the whole system.

Guy- no it is not power steering. I was afraid I was missing a loose nut somewhere that might send me into the side of another vessel, or in the path of a freighter on the river!!"
 
Check the steering system inch

Check the steering system inch by inch for what you just said since the steering change came on suddenly.
