"Been having some problems with my steering on my 81 johnson 150. Does not have power steering. Its one heck of a workout trying to turn the wheel, i know its not normal cause not too long ago it was pretty easy to turn it. I greased up the steering cable on the lower unit and still its hard to steer it. Im wondering if the cable might be bent or something, but before i do anything, im trying to get some suggestions on how to go about fixing it. Its not too big of a problem but id kinda like to able to move my arms after a trip to the lake."

"You first need to determine whether the problem is with the cable or the motor. Disconnect the cable at the motor and see if the motor turns freely. If it doesn't then give it a good lube job. If its ok, take the cable out of the tube on the front of the motor and check the lube there. If its good then it might be time to replace the cable."
