steering play moves side to side by itself 1988 350

88 wellcraft 20ft, 350 mercruiser, boat has this problem since i bought it. driving at low idle speed, steering wheel is centered, boat goes left and then right. If i hold it at center, it corrects itself left first then right and so on. At speed problem is not bad. So I replaced the gimbal, gimbal pin but same problem. Guess its in the steering assembly. How do I determine what type steering I have to order a new system?

What is occurring is normal at idle speed. You wasted your money.

normal for the age of boat? or normal for even a brand new boat? i dont rmember ever having any of my previous boats do that. thanks

Ayuh,... Normal for most All V-hulls...
