I am getting ready to replace part # 53 or OMC #319006 with an aluminum upgraded peice. I am wondering if anyone has any tips on replacing this part? I am assuming it is going to be fairly simple, but would appreciate some input before I tear into it. Thanks, and any replies are appreciated!
 
-It should have 2 bumps on the square on each end so it would be hard to do this wrong.------Remove 108, 109, 107,52 and install it.
 
Actually got it done already. Not nearly as hard as I thought. A bit tricky but wasn't bad. Thanks for your input racerone. I replaced the part from the opposite end. I think your route would have been much more difficult. In this order, with the handle straight up, I removed 67, then 65, 64, and 53 came right out. I will note though, I did have to loosen 80, the bolt for the handle.
 
Kim- It did tighten up the throttle, but unfortunately the motor still will not achieve and hold WOT. I am stumped. I haven't got a clue what to do now. Maybe a carb rebuild kit? I am also wondering if the wonderful ethanol in our gas has chewed up the jet. A friend told me that could be a possibility, as he's had it happen on four wheeler carbs. I ran the motor hard saturday, sunday, monday, and yesterday, in various wind conditions. The motor would push my 14 sea king anywhere from 12.5-19 mph. (19 mph with the 25 mph wind at my back) At 19 mph, the motor sounded like she was close to being wound up where it should be at WOT. The only reason I am saying that is my friend has the exact same motor and prop only a year older, and in slightly worse condition than mine, and it pushes my boat LOADED with 150 lbs of musky fishing gear and me at 22-23 mph when its running WOT. And before anyone says it, his motor does not have a 15 hp carb on it. What do you think is going on here? PLEASE HELP LOL
 
What are the results of a compression test ?------Have you looked for a leaking diaphragm on the fuel pump ?----What is the pitch of the prop ?----Same as the friend's motor ?
 
I have not done a compression test yet. I think it will he right where it needs to be, only because the motor CAN and does occasionally achieve WOT and runs perfect when it gets there. It's just a matter of getting it there. The prop is the sake as my friends. It's the original prop... I believe its 9 1/2" x 10. Oh and no fuel leaking anywhere. I've checked multiple times.
 
A leaking diaphragm would leak fuel straight into the engine ( bypassing the carburetor ) one cylinder would run rich.--You can not see this leak with your eyes !---------That results in a lack of performance.----In order to evaluate the performance of a motor you need to gather the facts.------A compression test is just one of those simple tests.---If actual compression is good than great.---If not , then you have the answer to the problems.
 
Then do tell me how I go about checking for a leaking diaphragm on the fuel pump? As for the compression test, I do not have a tester, nor have I felt the need to check the compression just yet. And just a guess here, but IF I did have a diaphragm leaking in the fuel pump, would that not affect how the motor is running at idle and mid range?
 
Just to clear this up before I delete my account here, my compression was 90and 91psi before decarb. Replaced my fuel pump, although didn't need to because there was nothing wrong with the one I had. Fuel pump not it. Powerhead issues not it. Rebuilt carb. Not it. Spent another $100 bucks on throttle linkage parts (3 items). Problem solved.
