Steering Cable

How do you replace the steering cable on 1985 stringer? I'm not sure where it separates from the outdrive.

remove outdrive, slide plastic cover from rear steer cable drum, steer until the slot head screw appears. remove the screw, slide the steering shaft out the back of the intermediate housing.
be mindful of wave washer, spacers etc. and the order the go in.

do you have another cable? if not, mention the length...someone might have one.

I'm replacing the drive and the cable on the "new" drive is the wrong length for the boat. I'm just gonna use my original one. Thanks for the advice.
