"i would ck the head very well,...block surface, and for crack,in sleeve area-block sd."

"it depends on which prob u ha

"it depends on which prob u have---too rich w/fuel,or,water intrusion...steam cleaning,and pinging,is water."

"What mdl,year is your engine

"What mdl, year is your engine i am presuming its a 60deg v4? if it is they did have a problem with water ingression through the base plate gasket"

"Be careful if it is water get

"Be careful if it is water getting in. If you push that engine hard you may melt a piston. It happens very quickly too. (I know) I hard no prior warning of a problem. I ran up from 4200 to wot for a few seconds, backed off back to 4200, the revs started to slowly drop...as if I was loosing fuel..instink was to bump up the throttle to see if it would regain...it immediatly let go. Very sick sound and a total rebuild time."

i pulled the head a checked it

i pulled the head a checked it under a magnaphying glass dindnt see anything the sleeve looks great just rebuilt 2 years ago 30 over comp 135 i laid the head on a table and it woobles is thier a way to check to see if its worp at home jamie it a 150 1995 faststrike

"Take a metal straight edge an

"Take a metal straight edge and lay it on the head, move it around (across and lenght) look for gaps between the straight edge and the head. If there are gaps...find a true and flat surface, glue some sand paper to it, then work the heads over it....work it until the entire head surface is polished from the paper."

"emery cloth works well with a piece of plate glass,do figure 8,s in one dir then the other.
grab some fine aluminum oxide sheets for the finish.remember perfection works best"

"And if you don't mind me

"And if you don't mind me sticking my nose in for a minute, rember cleanliness is next to godliness and engine building comes rite in between."

"If by pinging you are talking

"If by pinging you are talking about detonation I've never heard of water causing detonation. As a mater of fact water is used to suppress detonation in ADI (anti detonation injection). He claims to be hearing a pecking sound (what ever that is) when he reduces power from WOT. Normally when power is reduced detonation ceases. I would also think that if he is in fact getting water in #4 he should be experiencing a power loss. I'm assuming that the motor starts, idles, and accelerates fine. And at 5200 RPM at WOT that doesn't sound bad either ( a little on the low side in my opinion, but not too bad) unless he has failed to tell us about a power loss."

"My 1986 90hp Evinrude is doin

"My 1986 90hp Evinrude is doing the same thing. Pings and pecks when pulling back on the throttle.
Could the low speed cicuits be clogged in the carbs? Engine runs great at full speed, but does not idle very well."

pecking soud like taping on th

pecking soud like taping on the side of the motor leg 3 or 4 times when i let off my motor has a 25 pitch prop so i dont run max rpms just a pref for me to protect my motor #4 cyl and spark is clean no coumbustion marks the rest of the cyl all looks the same with carb build up

jw you have helped more than you know thanks a bunch iam just waiting on the parts i orderd from this site

"Hope you guys don't mind

"Hope you guys don't mind a novice giving his thoughts. I have never seen it in an outboard but, I've seen it in diesels with some regularity. That is a loose liner. I see it has been a couple of years since a rebuild and a liner is mentioned. With the head off, I would definitely turn the crank through one time. If the liner doesn't move so much the better. A loose liner sounds just as described. At any rate, good luck."

jw i checked the sleeves with

jw i checked the sleeves with a true strait edge they r flush with the block i also cycl the crank with the starter serval times try to move the sleeves they r tight just waiting on parts i did put the silcone on last night and smeard with my finger and retorqued the bolts for a test run removed and looked like i had a prety even coat
