Stator

Hey,

I purchased a new stator for 80 horse mercury engine, unknown to me I was sent a cdi electronics version not the original sierra mercury version.

I am abit put off as my original stator was covered in a plastic coating, but the cdi model is fully exposed. Should I be worried about this, given that the engine is used in salt water conditions?

Cheers

I have just bought a similar one to replace the original sierra one i had. From what i've been told the cdi stators have the advantage that once the coils fail (which is a common problem) they can be replaced without the need to purchase the whole stator again much cheaper option. Also the plastic coating does not help to dissipate heat which is one of the main reasons these stators fail in the first place. I wouldnt worry.
